  "biographicalOrHistoricalInformation" : [ "Dr. Beatriz Alvarez-Tardio obtained her Ph.D. in Philippine Literature in Spanish from the University of the Philippines. She took postgraduate studies on Gender and Feminism (Complutense) and doctoral studies on editing texts (Alcalá de Henares). She is currently teaching at the University Rey Juan Carlos (Spain). She has taught at the University of Alcala de Henares (Spain), at the Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines. She was Distinguished Visiting Scholar at De La Salle University in the Philippines. As gender equality expert, she worked for several institutions, companies and NGO, such as Spanish Government, Madrid Autonomous Region, ESIC Business School, Induyco S.A., Cepaim, etc. As translator from English into Spanish, she published books and poetry, in Spain and the Philippines. In the area of linguistics, she studies the experience of second-first language acquisition, language attrition and learning difficulties in the context of international adoption in children at older ages. Her endeavours for the preservation and revaluation of Philippine Literature in Spanish brought forth her books on Adelina Gurrea, Writing Athwart: Life and Works with Ateneo de Manila University and the critical edition of Gurrea’s Cuentos de Juana, plus Enrique K. Laygo’s Relatos with Instituto Cervantes. She is the author of several articles and book chapters on Philippine Literature in Spanish, dealing with Jose Rizal, La Solidaridad, Fernando Canon, among other topics. In 2021, she curated the exhibit “Na linia secreto del horizonte: literatura hispanofilipina” at the Instituto Cervantes in Madrid (Spain), and published a revised and updated edition of Gurrea’s Cuentos de Juana (2021).
