lobid-organisations
lobid-organisations is a service of lobid.org. It is an international directory of libraries and similary organisations. This directory follows the Linked-Data principles. At the moment there are more than 40.000 institutions available, approximately 15.000 entries describing german institutions, more than 25.000 describing institutions in the USA. The directory is searchable through a search interface.
Most of the data is taken from the Online-ISIL-Directory and the MARC Organization Codes Database.
For each institution lobid.org provides an Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), that is a well-defined web identifier of the form
http://lobid.org/organisation/{ISIL/MARC Organization Code}
For example the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek has the ISIL "DE-101" und thus the URI http://lobid.org/organisation/DE-101.
URIs are fundamental for making RDF statements concerning these institutions, their adress, opening hours, book stock etc. For every instituition lobid-organisations offers rudimentary information (such as ISIL, adress, telephone number, Email …). These information are provided in HTML with embedded, machine readable RDF. Have a look in our wiki for further documentation.
Note: The data is yet not published to be downloaded because they are not licensed under an open definition. You can use non-significant amounts of individual entries for your pleasure, however, because they do not underly any copyrights.
