  "abstract" : [ "In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts führte die technisch-industrielle Entwicklung zu einer nachhaltigen Veränderung der Lebensbedingungen weiter Teile der Bevölkerung. Innerhalb des Deutschen Reiches war das Rheinland hiervon in besonders starkem Maße betroffen. Situation und Entwicklung des protestantischen Kirchenbaus innerhalb dieses gesamtgesellschaftlichen Veränderungsprozesses sind bisher aber kaum gewürdigt worden. Die Studie basiert auf einer Rekonstruktion des Baugeschehens bei mehr als 250 Neubauprojekten. Diese vollständige Erfassung ermöglichte abgesicherte Aussagen zu den Entscheidungen evangelischer Kirchengemeinden in den Kernfeldern ihrer Neubauprojekte: Stilfrage, Grundrisswahl, Innenraumkonzeption und, als besonders innovatives Element, die Verbindung von sakralen und profanen Funktionsbereichen. Innerhalb des Untersuchungszeitraumes erreichten die evangelischen Kirchengemeinden im Rheinland bei ihren Neubauprojekten ein bemerkenswertes Maß an Autonomie, Individualität und Professionalität." ],
