Im Auftragder EPA (European Pressphoto Agency) und später AP(Associated Press) berichtete sie aus Krisengebietenwie dem Balkan, Irak, Libyen und immer wieder ausAfghanistan. Dort wurde die Fotografin während derBerichterstattung über die Präsidentschaftswahlen am4. April 2014 von einem Attentäter erschossen. IhreAufnahmen sind nachhaltige Dokumentationen vom Leidund Überlebenswillen der Menschen. Ihr Gesamtwerk, dasneben Bildern aus Kriegsregionen auch brillante Porträtsund Sportfotografien umfasst, ist gekennzeichnet durchmenschliche Anteilnahme, eine dynamische Bildspracheund Sinn für Details. Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, u.a.2005 der erste Pulitzer-Preis für eine deutsche Fotografin,machten sie bereits zu Lebzeiten zu einer Ikone.Anja Niedringhaus is one of the most important women photographers of her generation. She reported on crisis areas such as the Balkans, Iraq, Libya and, time and again, Afghanistan. Here, on April 4th, 2014, she was killed by an assassin during her coverage of the presidential elections. Her photographs are lasting documents of human suffering and the will to survive. Numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize in 2005, made her an icon during her own lifetime." ],
