  "abstract" : [ "Abstract: \"Schaut man sich in den letzten Monaten die öffentliche Debatte um Wirtschaftsstandorte an, dann wird viel zu wenig über die Modernisierung des Reviers und die wirtschaftlichen und technologischen Innovationen gesprochen, vielmehr wird im Zusammenhang mit dem demographischen Wandel im Gegenteil eher sogar von der 'Abbauregion West' berichtet. Das über Jahre geprägte und publizierte Bild des Ruhrgebiets als 'Metropolregion' und als ein Wirtschaftsstandort mit Perspektive droht zu kippen. Hinweise auf den Aufbau neuer Wirtschaftssektoren (bspw. die Gesundheitswirtschaft mit knapp 200.000 Beschäftigten im Ruhrgebiet oder die neuen standortpolitischen Profilierungen durch den Informations- und Kommunikationssektor oder die Logistik) werden durch diese Negativschlagzeilen über das Revier verdrängt. Dies gilt auch für die positiven räumlichen und kulturellen Erneuerungen, die durch die Internationale Bauausstellung Emscher-Park wesentlich angeregt wurden. Vergessen werden zudem die in der Region beheimateten außeruniversitären Forschungseinrichtungen (etwa die Max-Planck-Institute und die Fraunhoferinstitute in den Bereichen Mikroelektronik, Materialfluss und Logistik, Software und Systemtechnik sowie Umwelt-, Sicherheits- und Energietechnik), die die ohnehin dichte Hochschullandschaft inzwischen ergänzen und insgesamt dem Ruhrgebiet ein Kompetenzpotential verleihen, das auch im interregionalen Vergleich vorzeigbar ist.\"" ],
