Georg Fertig verfolgt in seinem Buch die Bewegung von Parzellen und Höfen unter den Landwirten dreier westfälischer Orte und untersucht den Einfluss von Lebenslauf, verwandtschaftlichen Beziehungen und Nachbarschaft auf das Kaufen und Verkaufen von Land. Er zeigt, dass nicht die Logik des Marktes, sondern die der Gabe im Sinne der Wirtschaftsanthropologie die Mobilität des Bodens bestimmte und dass eine im Kern von familiärer Umverteilung geprägte bäuerliche Gesellschaft in der liberalen Marktwirtschaft fortbestand" ],
