Die seidenen Gewänder und Textilien der früheren Dynastien sind ein Tor, um tiefer in die jahrtausendealte Geschichte und Vorstellungswelt des Reiches des Goldenen Drachen vorzudringen. Ausgangspunkt für den Katalog ist die völlig unterschiedliche Bedeutung des chinesischen Drachen in seinem Ursprungsland und im Westen. Während er im Westen für das Böse steht, ist er in China Symbol für große Energie, Fruchtbarkeit und Macht. Der Drache und weitere Muster in chinesischen Seiden stehen im Fokus des Katalogs mit einer Auswahl von ca. 120 Textilien aus der reichen Sammlung des Deutschen Textilmuseums Krefeld.Zahlreiche Muster und ihre Bedeutung werden aufgeschlüsselt und die Verwendung der Gewänder und Textilien erklärt. Dabei wird eine Zeitspanne vom 13. bis ins 20. Jahrhundert umrissen. Textile Techniken und Materialien, allen voran die Seide und der Goldfaden spielen eine wichtige Rolle. In den einführenden Kapiteln werden frühe Goldstoffe mit Drachen, Damastseiden mit Blütenmustern und Gewänder des Hofes und der einfacheren Menschen, wie auch Objekte der Inneneinrichtung und moderne Textilien vorgestellt. Immer wieder finden sich überraschende Erkenntnisse und Einsichten in die weit entfernte Welt der chinesischen Dynastien." ],
