Mit dem wachsenden Anspruch an Verdichtung und intensive Flächenausnutzung geraten die Städte zunehmend unter Druck: sozial, politisch, ökologisch und nicht zuletzt baukulturell. Erklärtes Ziel der Bundesregierung ist es, bis zum Jahre 2050 einen nahezu klimaneutralen Baubestand zu haben. Aber was bedeutet dies für den Umgang mit historischen Stadtquartieren? Wie können Widersprüche zwischen dem Erhalt vertrauter und erhaltenswerter Bestandsstrukturen und den ökologischen Anforderungen gelöst werden? Lassen sich Energiewende und Denkmalschutz in Einklang bringen? Und welche Rolle kommt den Entscheidungsträgern - insbesondere den Kommunen - bei der Umsetzung der Zielvorgaben zu?
