Nicht nur seine zahlreichen Schriften, sondern auch seine Vita, sein politisches Kalkül und sein charismatisches Wirken wurden in den Jahrhunderten nach seinem Tod auf verschiedene Weise rezipiert. Erstmals wird die theatrale Inszenierung des Zisterziensers durch den 1534 gegründeten Jesuitenorden untersucht. Ausgangspunkt bildet ein fragmentarisch überliefertes studentisches Manuskript, das Zugang zu einem bis dato unbekannten Spieltext eines Kölner Jesuitenschauspiels über Bernhard von Clairvaux ermöglicht. // Für die Jesuiten, die in Köln das Gymnasium Tricoronatum leiteten, war das Theaterspiel ein wichtiges Mittel zur Erziehung und Formierung der Jugend sowie zur Unterweisung der Gläubigen. Die Berufung und das Charisma Bernhards eigneten sich in besonderer Weise, um auf der Bühne diese Ziele umzusetzen. // Im Zentrum stehen Edition und Übersetzung der ‚Divi Bernardi Tragicomoedia‘. Zudem legt der Band erstmals ein chronologisch geordnetes Repertorium der in Köln aufgeführten Jesuitenschauspiele vor. Auf diese Weise liefert die vorliegende Studie einen spezifischen Beitrag zur frühneuzeitlichen Theater- sowie Ordensgeschichte und dokumentiert einen zentralen Bereich des pastoralen Wirkens der Kölner Jesuiten." ],
