  "abstract" : [ "Die Forschung urteilt bislang, dass dem Episkopat im spätmittelalterlichen und frühneuzeitlichen Reich kaum Handlungsspielräume beschieden waren. Insbesondere den ›kleinen Bischöfen‹, die ein gering dotiertes Hochstift hatten, deren Einfluss durch konkurrierende Kräfte wie Landesfürsten, Domkapitel oder Kathedralstädte stark eingeschränkt war und die am Königshof kein Gewicht besaßen, wird praktisch keine Bedeutung im Gefüge des Alten Reichs zugesprochen. Die im vorliegenden Band versammelten Detailstudien, die Fallbeispiele vom äußersten Norden bis in den tiefsten Süden des römisch-deutschen Reich beleuchten, greifen diese Meinungen auf und beschäftigen sich mit den folgenden Fragen: Wie waren Bischöfe und ihr Umfeld in strukturelle Zwänge eingebunden? Welche Handlungsspielräume konnten sie sich erarbeiten? Und mit welchen sozialen Praktiken versuchten sie ihre Position zu verbessern und zu kompensieren? In der Summe zeigt sich, dass selbst vermeintlich ›kleine Bischöfe‹ auf regionaler Ebene überraschend groß erscheinen konnten.", "'›Small bishops‹ in the Holy Roman Empire.
