  "abstract" : [ "Im November 1918 verschwanden gleichsam über Nacht alle deutschen Fürstenhäuser von der Bühne der Geschichte. Frank-Lothar Kroll spürt der Frage nach, was aus den entthronten Herrschern und ihren Familien in den folgenden Jahrzehnten geworden ist.Seine biographischen Porträts machen die politischen, sozialen und kulturellen Veränderungen deutlich, die der Sturz der Landesfürsten hervorrief. Sie zeigen aber auch, dass die ehemaligen Herrscherfamilien mit ihrem Changieren zwischen Tätertum und Gegnerschaft in der NS-Zeit ein ziemlich getreues Abbild der deutschen Gesellschaft boten. Die Rolle einzelner Familien in dieser Zeit ist bis heute bestimmend für den Umgang mit den nach 1945 auf dem Gebiet der SBZ/DDR erfolgten Enteignungen. Lebensläufe aus 19 Herrscherhäusern, darunter die Askanier, das Haus Baden, das Haus Hessen, die Hohenzollern, das Haus Lippe, das Haus Mecklenburg, das Haus Oldenburg, das Haus Reuß, das Haus Schaumburg-Lippe, das Haus Schwarzburg, das Haus Waldeck, die Welfen, die Wettiner, die Wittelsbacher und das Haus Württemberg. Frank-Lothar Kroll, Prof. Dr. phil, geboren 1959, lehrt seit 2000 Europäische Geschichte des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts an der Technischen Universität Chemnitz. Er ist Vorsitzender des Wissenschaftlichen Beraterkreises der Bundesstiftung 'Flucht, Vertreibung, Versöhnung' und war langjähriges Mitglied in zahlreichen wissenschaftlichen Beiräten, u. a. des Instituts für Zeitgeschichte München, des Deutschen Historischen Instituts Warschau und der Forschungsgemeinschaft 20.
