  "abstract" : [ "Im Zuge der Säkularisation ging im 19. Jahrhundert ein Großteil der Kölner Glasmalereien des Mittelalters unwiederbringlich verloren. Bei den meisten Fenstern handelte es sich um Stiftungen, die den Kirchen und Klöstern zum Gedenken an die Wohltäter und ihre Familien geschenkt worden waren. Um den im Gegenzug vereinbarten Gebetsverpflichtungen angemessen nachkommen zu können, verzeichneten die beschenkten Einrichtungen die Stiftungen in eigens angelegten Wohltäterverzeichnissen. Dank dieser Aufzeichnungen können die mittelalterlichen Glasmalereistiftungen rekonstruiert, in den besagten Kirchen verortet und die dazugehörigen Stifter ermittelt werden. Vor allem das Kanonikerstift St. Maria ad Gradus, das Kartäuserkloster St. Barbara und die Pfarrkirche St. Jakob verfügen in dieser Hinsicht über eine ausgesprochen gute Überlieferungslage. Auch wenn sich keine der Glasmalereistiftungen an Ort und Stelle erhalten hat, lässt sich im Fall dieser drei Kirchen mithilfe des Quellenmaterials nicht nur ein guter Eindruck von der einstigen Verglasung gewinnen, sondern auch vom sozialen Profil der jeweiligen Stifterkreise." ],
