Welche Rolle spielt dabei der anhaltende Strukturwandel gegenüber neuen Vorstellungen des Ruhrgebiets, etwa als urban-hippe Metropole oder als grüne Freizeitregion? Am Beispiel der Plattform Instagram liefert die Studie Antworten auf diese Fragen. Denn soziale Medien sind wichtige Arenen für die Aushandlung regionaler und lokaler Identitäten: So finden sich auch auf Instagram zahlreiche Visualisierungen des Ruhrgebiets „nach der Kohle“. Die Studie zeigt, wie sich zivilgesellschaftliche, administrativ-institutionelle und ökonomische Akteur:innen zur Aufwertung der Region zusammenfinden und welche neuen Vorstellungsbilder diese Gruppen ko-produzieren. Die ethnografische Forschung macht deutlich, wie bestimmte ästhetisch-kulturelle Codierungen regionaler Neuentwürfe konsensfähig werden und wie – trotz der partizipativen Auslegung der Plattform – bestimmte Gruppen und Identitäten bevorzugt werden." ],
