  "abstract" : [ "Abstract: Der Beitrag untersucht den Einfluß von Interessen und Herkunft auf die Wahl eines Studiums in Längsschnitt ehemaliger Gymnasiasten vom 16. bis zum 30. Lebensjahr. Im Jahr 1970 wurden 3240 nordrhein-westfälische Gymnasiasten des 10. Schuljahres erstmals, im Jahre 1985 wurden davon 1989 zum zweiten Male befragt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, daß Interessen vor allem die Wahl theoretischer Studienfächer beeinflussen, die in den Schulfächern gewisse Entsprechungen besitzen. Auf diese Wahlentscheidungen hat die soziale Herkunft keinen Einfluß. Die Herkunft aber reproduziert sich in der Wahl professionsnaher Studienfächer, für die in der Schule keine Weichen gestellt werden. Nach diesen Befunden herrscht zwischen den beiden Einflüssen Interesse und Herkunft eher Komplementarität als ein Kontrast. Nur am oberen Ende der Skala akademischer Positionen tritt die soziale Herkunft in den Vordergrund, in der breiten Mitte akademischer Berufspositionen steuern die Interessen die Wahl eines Studiengangs", "Abstract: On the basis of longitudinal data this article studies the influence of interests and social origin on the selection of a field of university study. In 1970 3240 16-year old highschool students who were, at the time, attending the 10th grade of a \"gymnasium\" in North-Rhine Westphalia were interviewed for the first time. The survey was repeated in 1985 at the age of 30. The findings show that interests are most influential when students are going to select study programs of a theoretical type, which to a certain degree correspond to subjects taught in school. In this case the selection process is independent from social background. When, however, professional flelds of study, which have not been taught in school, are selected social origin is a major source of influence. According to these results interests and social background seem to be more complementary than contrasting. It is only at the upper end of the scale of academic positions that social origin predominates interests." ],
