  "abstract" : [ "Zusammenfassung: Im 21. Jahrhundert sind die globalen Herausforderungen, insbesondere der Klimawandel und der Verlust an Biodiversität, so deutlich wie nie zuvor. Die planetaren Grenzen wurden bereits in mehreren Bereichen überschritten, was die Dringlichkeit einer nachhaltigen Transformation verdeutlicht. Nachhaltigkeit wird damit zur globalen Aufgabe, und immer mehr Unternehmen und Organisationen erkennen die Relevanz dieses Themas. Auch zunehmend mehr Veranstaltungen werden unter der Berücksichtigung von Nachhaltigkeitsaspekten geplant und umgesetzt, da vor allem große Besuchendenmengen, hohes Verkehrsaufkommen und ein hoher Lärmpegel weitreichende Einflüsse auf die Umwelt haben. Das Forschungs- und Transferprojekt „Nachhaltige IGA 2027“, gefördert von der Deutschen Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU), verbindet diese Themen und zielte darauf ab, ein integratives Nachhaltigkeitskonzept für Gartenschauen zu entwickeln. Das Konzept berücksichtigt dabei nicht nur ökologische Aspekte, um Einsparpotenziale zu identifizieren, sondern auch Themen rund um soziale Teilhabe sowie Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung (BNE) werden als Querschnittsthemen betrachtet. Die Internationale Gartenausstellung (IGA) 2027 im Ruhrgebiet diente dabei als Reallabor des Forschungsprojektes. Im Vergleich zu anderen Großveranstaltungen zeichnen sich Gartenschauen durch besondere Charakteristika aus, da sie neben der Ausstellungsfläche auch einen Einfluss auf die nachhaltige Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung der Region haben und durch Ausstellungelemente auch ein Bewusstsein für Umweltthemen in der breiten Öffentlichkeit schaffen können" ],
