  "note" : [ "Mit dem Einmarsch US-Amerikanischer Truppen in das linksrheinische Köln endet am 6. März 1945 für die dort lebenden Menschen der Zweite Weltkrieg. Nach zwölf Jahren Nationalsozialismus - und fast sechs Jahren Krieg - gleicht Köln einer Geisterstadt: Die Altstadt ist zerstört, kaum ein Gebäude mehr oberirdisch bewohnbar. Die hygienischen Verhältnisse sind katastrophal, die Strom-, Wasser- und Gasversorgung funktionieren nicht mehr. Nur ein Bruchteil der ursprünglichen Bevölkerung lebt noch in der Stadt. Am Ende des vom NS-Regime entfesselten Krieges stehen Hunger, Not, körperliche und geistige Erschöpfung und Orientierungslosigkeit, aber auch Hoffnung und Erleichterung über das Ende der Bombenangriffe. Unter alliierter Aufsicht beginnen der Wiederaufbau der Stadt und die Neuorganisation von Politik und Verwaltung - auch mit Beteiligung der alten NS-Elite. Eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Nationalsozialismus und den eigenen Verstrickungen in die NS-Verbrechen finden bei vielen Kölner*innen nicht statt. Die Ausstellung lässt auf vielschichtige Weise diese unmittelbare Nachkriegszeit in Köln von 1945 bis 1948 lebendig werden. Sie erzählt vom täglichen Kampf ums Überleben, von Hungerdemonstrationen und CARE-Paketen, von Trümmerbeseitigung und Wohnungsnot, von Kriegswaisen und Flüchtlingen, vom kulturellen Neustart – und: vom Verschweigen und Verdrängen. Im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung steht ein großes Stadtmodell von Köln im Jahr 1945, geschaffen für den schwedischen Spielfilm „Über die Unendlichkeit“ (2019) von Roy Andersson. Eindrucksvoll verdeutlicht es das Ausmaß der Bombenschäden. Hinzu kommen historische Fotos, Filme, Objekte und Installationen. Mit einer Dokumentation der noch immer vorhandenen baulichen „Kriegsnarben“ in der Stadt sowie der im Stadtraum sichtbaren Mahnmale schlägt die Ausstellung darüber hinaus den Bogen in die Gegenwart." ],
