Die Zahl jener, die durch Zwangssterilisierungen oder unmenschliche Experimente in den Konzentrationslagern und anderen Einrichtungen unwiderrufbare psychische und physische Schäden erlitten, ist noch viel höher. Der Einzelne wurde zur Zahl, zum unerwünschten Teil der „Volksgemeinschaft\". Das Leid der Opfer an Rhein und Sieg sowie das System, das sie dazu machte, hat der Rhein-Sieg-Kreis gemeinsam mit dem LVR-Institut für Landeskunde und Regionalgeschichte seit 2017 in einer breitangelegten Studie erforscht. Ganz konkret wird nach Taten und Tätern, vor allem aber nach den Betroffenen und deren Schicksalen gefragt.
