  "abstract" : [ "\"Der Arbeitsmarkt in Nordrhein-Westfalen ist durch erhebliche regionale Disparitäten gekennzeichnet. Die Beschäftigung in NRW als ganzes ist im Zeitraum von 1993 bis 2001 um jährlich 0,37 Prozent zurückgegangen. Aber bereits auf der Ebene der Regionen zeigen sich gegenläufige Entwicklungen: Der Ballungsraum Ruhrgebiet und das Bergische Land weisen erhebliche Beschäftigungsverluste auf, während z.B. die Region Münsterland Beschäftigung hinzu gewonnen hat. Auf Kreisebene variiert die Wachstumsrate der Beschäftigung zwischen 1,29 Prozent pro Jahr im ländlichen Paderborn und - 3,03 Prozent in Gelsenkirchen im nördlichen Ruhrgebiet, woraus sich eine Spannweite von mehr als 4 Prozentpunkten ergibt. Der Hauptgrund für die insgesamt negative Beschäftigungsentwicklung Nordrhein-Westfalens ist das aus der hohen Arbeitsplatzdichte resultierende große Gewicht des Ruhrgebiets. Hinsichtlich der Beschäftigungsentwicklung belegt NRW den letzten Platz im Länder-Ranking der westdeutschen Flächenstaaten. Nur die Stadtstaaten Hamburg und Bremen verloren im gleichen Zeitraum einen noch größeren Anteil ihrer Arbeitsplätze. An der Spitze rangiert Bayern, das mit einer durchschnittlichen Wachstumsrate von 0,15 Prozent pro Jahr den bundesweit günstigsten Beschäftigungsverlauf erzielt, gefolgt vom Saarland mit 0,07 Prozent. In der Untersuchung werden zentrale Determinanten der Beschäftigungsentwicklung analysiert: Die Branchenzusammensetzung, die Betriebsgröße, die Qualifikation und der Lohn sowie weitere standortspezifische Faktoren. Das empirische Analysemodell ermittelt für bestimmte Branchen, hauptsächlich für Dienstleistungen, für die Qualifikationsgruppe der Akademiker und für mittelgroße Betriebe eine die Beschäftigung begünstigende Wirkung. Dagegen weisen große Betriebe und die Mehrzahl der Branchen im Produzierenden Gewerbe Beschäftigungsverluste aus. Diese auf der Datenbasis aller westdeutschen Kreise ermittelten Einflussgrößen werden mit ihren regionalen Ausprägungen verknüpft und ergeben so den Beitrag einer jeden Determinante zum regionalen Beschäftigungswachstum.
