Einzelne Gruppen der Zweigvereine schlossen sich dem Kulturbund der DDR an, um sich in Arbeits- und Interessengemeinschaften für Natur- und Umweltschutz sowie Heimat- und Brauchtumspflege zu engagieren. Der Thüringerwald-Verein Coburg nahm unmittelbar nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges seine Tätigkeit wieder auf - als einziger überlebender Zweigverein. Nachdem sich in Thüringen wieder neue Zweigvereine gegründet hatten, wurde am 22.09.1990 auf der Sennighöhe bei Coburg der Thüringerwald-Verein 1880 e.V. als Hauptverein wieder gegründet." ],
