Das Kloster befand sich auf dem südlichen Hochufer der Unstrutaue etwa 1 km südlich von Thamsbrück, einem Ortsteil von Bad Langensalza. 1541 wurde das Benediktinerkloster Homburg (Hohenburg) im Zuge der Reformation aufgehoben. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts waren noch sehr spärliche Reste des Klosters zu sehen. Heute gilt es (bzw. die Burg) als abgegangen, das heißt ohne jegliche Überreste." ],
