  "biographicalOrHistoricalInformation" : [ "1153 als Filialkloster des Klosters Maulbronn von Wolfram von Bebenburg in Neusaß gegründet; 1157-63 Umzug nach Schöntal an die Jagst; das dortige Gelände stellten die Herren von Berlichingen zur Verfügung; im Ostflügel des Kreuzganges ist auch Götz von Berlichingen begraben; das Kloster stand unter dem Schutz des Bischofs von Würzburg; 1282 Übergabe des Klosters aus finanziellen Gründen an das Kloster Kaisheim; 1418 Verleihung der Reichsunmittelbarkeit auf dem Konstanzer Konzil, die dem Kloster bis 1495 erhalten blieb; während des Bauernkrieges 1525 wurde Schöntal mehrfach ausgeraubt und stark zerstört; im Laufe der Reformation konnte man sich zwar gegen die Aufhebung wehren, die Klostergebäude waren aber inzwischen unbewohnbar geworden; 1617/18 Errichtung der Alten Abtei, in der die Mönche und der Abtstrakt untergebracht waren; Belagerung des Klosters während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges, Flucht der Mönche 1631 und mehrfache Plünderung  des Klosters; 1648 mehrmalige Einquartierung von Soldaten; unter Abt Benedikt Knittel (1683-1732) Erbauung der Barockkirche, des palastartigen Konventsgebäudes mit Rokoko-Treppenhaus; 1802 säkularisiert, 1810-1975 Evangelisch-Theologisches Seminar, seit 1979 Bildungshaus der Diözese Rottenburg-Stuttgart, Waldschulheim für Schulen und Rathaus der Gemeinde Schöntal; Kloster Schöntal zählt zu den landeseigenen Monumenten und wird von der Einrichtung Staatliche Schlösser und Gärten Baden-Württemberg betreut" ],
