Als Sicherheitsbehörden fungieren das Innenministerium (Generaldirektion für die öffentliche Sicherheit), Sicherheitsdirektionen (auf Landesebene) und darunter die Bezirksverwaltungsbehörden oder an deren Stelle die Bundespolizeidirektionen. Die Bundespolizeidirektion Wien ist zugleich Wiener Sicherheitsdirektion. Vor dem 1.7.2005 ist \"Bundespolizei\" als Sammelbezeichnung für die Bundespolizeidirektionen (Bundespolizeibehörden) und deren Wachkörper gebräuchlich gewesen." ],
