Entstand zwischen 1620 und 1630. – Inhalt: Am Hof des Prinzen Taddeo erzählen 49 einfache, meist hässliche und/oder körperlich abstoßende Frauen aus dem einfachen Volk im neapolitanischen Dialekt Märchen. Damit ergibt sich folgende Situation: Ein erwachsenes, adliges Publikum amüsiert sich über volkstümliche Erzählungen aus dem Mund von Vertretern der niederen Stände. Die Sprache schwankt dabei zwischen einer blumig-schwülstigen Ausdrucks-weise auf der einen und einer deftigen Ausdrucksweise auf der anderen Seite. Sie entspricht damit den typischen Merkmalen barocker Dichtung. – Überlieferung: Erschien in 2 Bänden posthum 1634 und 1646. Eine frühe Erwähnung des Pentameron findet sich in der Bibliothèque Universelle des Romans von 1777. Eine erste Übersetzung ins Deutsche efolgte 1846 (F. Liebknecht).
